Moving to Idaho: Where are they coming from?
The Idaho real estate market continues to remain strong… especially with a large number of people moving to Idaho from out of state. Check out this recent report from Idaho Channel 2 New on where people are coming from:
Nearly 80,000 people moved to Idaho in 2018.
Here’s where they came from:
Idaho added nearly 80,000 residents in 2018, according to the latest state-to-state migration data from the 2018 U.S. Census Bureau. The 79,765 people who moved to the Gem State last year helped the state’s population grow to more than 1,734,000.
Where are people moving from?
Idaho’s largest gain came from California, followed by neighboring states like Washington and Utah. California’s 21,018 transplants accounted for 26.3 percent of Idaho’s population gain in 2018, while Washington’s 14,955 accounts for 18.7 percent.
States with the largest number of people who moved to Idaho in 2018
1. California: 21,018 (26.3%)
2. Washington: 14,955 (18.7%)
3. Utah: 6,626 (8.3%)
4. Oregon: 4,735 (5.9%)
5. Texas: 4,180 (5.2%)
Other states near the top of the list were Arizona (3,852), Nevada (3,736), New York (2,943) and Montana (2,880). Close to 2,000 people moved here from Connecticut (1,905) and another 1,505 came from Colorado.
Where aren’t people moving from?
According to the Census Bureau data, Idaho didn’t gain any residents from Delaware, Washington D.C., Hawaii, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island or South Dakota. *Keep in mind, these numbers have a margin of error to account for survey estimates.
